Product Information

A rare Boer War and WWI era Lee-Metford MKII .303 rifle . Original manufactured in 1893 by Enfield, it was upgraded by them to charger loading in 1910 and marked C.L.L.E. MKI*. As part of the continued upgrades to the Magazine Lee-Metford MKI*, the MKII, its replaced was approved in 1892, but did not get final approval until April 1893. This example is dated 1893, from that first year of production. The Lee-Metford was only in production for a short period before the MLE which eventually became the SMLE, replaced it. This example has two sets of regiment markings. The first are 7.WK.32. = 7th Warwickshire Regiment, weapon number 32. They were struck out when it was reissued and marked 6.W.YK.665 = 6th Regiment West Yorkshire (The Prince of Wales Own), weapon number 665. Both regiments were involved in the Boer Wars, WW1 & WW2. Of considerable interest, it has an intricate armorers repair to the fore-stock and three lines carved into the top of the buttstock. This is a clear indication that this rifle was damage whilst in service and that the user recorded three kills!

Any Metford rifle is rare but to find such an early production example with these military markings is a very rare find indeed. A real collectors piece.

Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
