Product Information

A Boer War & WWI military MLE (Magazine Lee Enfield) Carbine MKI* ,chambered in .303. Dated 1902 it was manufactured by BSA.Co (Birmingham Small Arms Company). 1903 saw the introduction of the SMLE replacing the current military Long Lee rifle. Small numbers of Long Lee & MLE rifles were converted into carbines to be issued to artillery and cavalry units, many being used during WWI. Note, this example has NOT been converted to charger loading and still its MLE bolt with dust cover lugs, also remaining are the original rear sights, forward barrel band and nose cap with bayonet lug. The wood work has the correct carcouches with two old armorers repairs. The Volley and peep hole sights were removed with the only remaining remnants left the fixing screw on the left hand side of the receiver. Below this is evidence of markings that have been removed and "0.6.21" , possible unit or regiment identification. Another unusual feature is as well as having a sling swivels underneath, it has also had one on top of the stock. This type of modification is often associated with cavalry use. The lack of sling hoops would also suggest this making it easier to holster whilst on horse back. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
