Deactivated Colt 1911 Government model

This is a rare Colt 1911 Government model factory plated pistol. The serial number C186144 dates to 1937 and is only one of 5,500 of this model made that year. Serial numbers started at C183200 to C188699. Factory plated 1911's are very rare and were normally only made on request as a special order. In 1937 the US experienced one of its worst recessions in its history, and therefore it is most likely that this Colt 1911 was ordered by or for someone of considerable wealth, possibly as a commemorative or long service presentation piece. Members of the FBI and law enforcement agencies were issued with the 1911 during this period.
