Product Information

Dunkirk era, British made Dovetail Bren gun MK1, manufactured by Enfield. Fitted with correct stock, dial sight and adjustable bi-pod legs and MKI barrel. Although stamped 1940 on the receiver, the serial number is from 1939 (batch C1-C9999), with final assembly being early in 1940.  These Brens were manufactured with a distinctive dovetail slot to fit a dial sight. Many were taken to France during the battle of France by the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) but were later abandoned on the beaches of Dunkirk during one of the most famous evacuations of the war between May and June of 1940. This event lead Winston Churchill to make one of his most famous and emotive speeches of WWII ("We will fight them on the beaches"). This example has definitely seen active service during WWII as it is marked on the receiver with three sets of inspectors markings. The first was stamped when originally issued in 1940, then again in 1944 and finally in 1946. This is one of the most iconic British weapons of all time! Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.

Of considerable interest, the final image is taken at Dunkirk after the Allies had evacuated, and clearly visible is a Dovetail Bren sat in the sand on its bi-pod legs at the bottom of the pile (bottom right of centre).
