Deactivated Early SMLE MKIII by Enfield Dated 1909. From 1907 to 1912 RSAF Enfield only manufactured 100,000 MKIIIs. That's less than 17,000 a year! This lovely example is still fitted with its magazine cut off plate, has matched bolt and great wood work. Regimentally marked on the brass disc with the initials S A P , most likely the abbreviation for South African Police with the weapon number below. Stamped on the brass end cap is initials C H DE JAGER and/or district, possible the once owners name. A very interesting and well travelled rifle. Used by the British & Common Wealth armed forces in both world wars and many other colonial conflicts. Comes fitted with reproduction leather sling. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
