An early Enfield manufactured SMLE MKIII rifle dated 1911, chambered in .303. Still in tact are many original features including the forward volley diopter sight, magazine cut off plate(although not fitted will be supplied) and correct early bolt assembly. The brass disc reads "Malvern 810". These early examples were amongst the first batches taken to war in 1914 with the first wave of British forces, and with vast majority not returning, either being destroyed, captured or lost in action. This one eventually being used as a training aid and marked D.P. (Drill Purpose). The wood work bears many old scars and blemishes only found on a rifle of this vintage. To give an idea of how few were made Enfield only produced 100,000 MKIIIs from 1907 to 1912. Deactivated in 1995 to old specifications it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
