Rare WWI & WWII Colt / Remington Rand manufactured Colt 1911 .45 pistol. The frames serial number 539807 dates to 1918 production and is still fitted with the correct  First World War wooden chequered grips. The slide is Remington Rand and is from WWII. As with most US weapons that are manufactured by different companies during wartime manufacture the parts are interchangeable. A simple field repair would be swapping parts as a quick fix. The overall condition would suggest that this was done during WWII with even wear to both parts. The classic American side arm, firing the same hard hitting .45 round as the Thompson & Grease submachine guns. Deactivated in 1992 to old specifications with a working action, it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
