Deactivated Old Spec WWI SMLE MKIII* Rifle. Manufactured by Enfield in 1918 with matching numbers. The "Smelly" as its most commonly referred to, was the standard issued rifle to British troops during the Great War. The SMLE was a far superior rifle in comparison with the German Gew98. Fitted with a ten round capacity removable magazine and fast, short stroke bolt action it easily out performed and aging Gew98s. One of the greatest military bolt action rifles of all time, most saw active service during WWII. This example comes with 1917 dated Wilkinson 1907 pattern bayonet & scabbard, plus canvas sling and six inert .303 round and clip. Would make a superb display piece. Deactivated sympathetically in 1991 to old specifications if can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
