Product Information

A beautiful condition all matching numbers WWI & WWII SMLE rifle. Although not that clear the date stamp looks to be 1916. This is further supported by the magazine cut-off slot in the receiver. This was omitted from SMLE production that year. In 1937 this rifle was reworked at the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield with the armorer replacing the rear sight and matching it to the rifles serial number. Note the armorers repair to the base of the stock, a good indication of WWI service use. This rework would have been done at the request of the British Government as part of the pre WWII armament build up for British forces as hostilities in Europe had started to unfold. Often over looked, in the mid 1930s Nazi Germany had already made large scale military movements within Europe with German forces entering Austria in 1938 whilst Allied forces watched on. It is quite plausible this rifle was involved at the Battle of Dunkirk in 1940. This lovely rifle is all matched including wood work, barrel, correct early bolt assembly, nose cap and rear sight. Covered in British military broad acceptance stamps and fitted with an original WWII dated canvas sling. It is rare to find such an original and complete rifle with this history. The brass disc is marked with the unit or weapon/rack numbers 1910. Deactivated in 1994 to old specifications it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
