Product Information

A very interesting First World War issued SMLE MKIII. Dated 1916 it was manufactured by BSA as a MKIII with magazine cut-off plate. Just visible in the lower wood work are the receivers serial numbers C28834. In 1916 rifles were in huge demand with all available weapons shipped to forces in France. The wood work on this one exhibits battle scars and "trench art". During WWII it was issued to the (West Riding) Dewsbury, Yorkshire, Home Guard. The number 2 most likely signifies 2nd Battalion. Dewsbury was bombed during WWII and Home Guard units were mobilized to police and protect the civilian population. They would have also been responsible for capturing any downed Luffwaffe pilots. A great rifle with lots of history. Deactivated in 1993 to old specifications it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
