Product Information

A rare Boer War / WW1 SMLE that has been converted from a Long Long rifle, chambered in .303 . Originally manufactured in 1901 during the Second Boer War (1899-1902) by Birmingham Small Arms (BSA). In 1911 it was converted to the then new replacement rifle, the SMLE (Short Magazine Lee Enfield) and stamped with the initials CCL meaning Conversion Charger Loading and dated 1911. This was as an effective way of utilising existing and perfectly serviceable rifles. The original Long Lee stock , sling hoop and brass end cap are still in tact with brass disc, with the rest of the rifle receiving the newer SMLE parts and wood work. With the outbreak of WWI and demand growing for serviceable rifles these conversion were an essential asset for troops in the trenches. Very few of these rifles exist with only limited numbers ever being converted this way. With a few minor armourers repairs to the woodwork, fitted with a magazine cut off plate, it is deactivated with a working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
