Product Information

A very rare early production SMLE MKI* .303 rifle. Manufactured in 1906 by Birmingham Small Arms Co.(BSA). These early examples are seldom seen as so few now exist. First produced in 1903, the Mark 1 featured volley sights (front and rear), charger loading for the magazine, magazine cut off plate and distinctive humped top piece of wood incorporating the rear sight protective wings. The rear sights feature bone inserts either side of the range adjuster. The nose cap, again differs from later models with hooked protective fore sight wings. This one is correctly marked a MKI* as these early SMLE's were given minor upgrades in 1906 and re-designated with star* prefix , eventually being superseded the following year (1907) by the MKIII. To give some idea of how few were made, BSA only produced 150,000 MK1s from 1903 to 1906. A rare and historic Lee Enfield rifle covered with a plethora of broad arrow acceptance markings. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
