Product Information

This is a rare Boer War era 1902 dated Birmingham Small Arms manufactured Magazine Lee Enfield or MLE. In 1905 and 1913 it saw factory upgrades and was stamped accordingly by the factory inspectors. In 1909 as part of the continuing military upgrades it was converted by Enfield to a Charger Loading Lee Enfield and marked CLLE I*, the same system being used on the then new SMLE bolt action rifle. The original serial number was struck out and a new one added. This rifle has been issued several times during its extensive service life. The most obvious markings are OTC - Officer Training Corps. The initials W.P.K. are still being investigated but are most likely the regiment or county / area of the training school. Below this are the markings "38 4 KOSB 865" and are believed to be, 38th Battalion , 4th company, Kings Own Scottish Borders, weapon no 865. The stock also bears several old regiment markings. A fascinating rifle with lots of military history. The MLE saw action in the Second Boer from Oct 1899 to May 1902 and in WW1. Incredible it still retains many original features including its volley and diopter sights and magazine cut off plate. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
