Product Information

Rare Martini Enfield .303” stamped M.M.ACIII, (Martini Metford Artillery Carbine MK3). This carbine was originally a Martini Henry MKIII chambered in .577 before being converted and upgraded in 1895 by Enfield to the then new .303 cartridge. Utilized the surplus stocks of Martini actions and additional new Metford parts the British military converted these rifles and carbines into serviceable guns. Once converted this carbine was issued in April 1896 to Royal Garrison Artillery 12th Company weapon number 166 (4.96.R.G.A.12 CO.166). If the markings on the left hand side of the receiver are anything to go by then this carbine looks to have been in and out of the Enfield factory for various upgrades and modifications no fewer than 9 times from around 1896 to 1906. It is very unusual to find any weapon with so many of these markings. On the right hand side of the receiver are the remnants of the original L.S.A. Co (London Small Arms Company) MKIII stamps with a number 1 below (first class rifle). These carbines were used during the Second Boer War (1899 to1902) and British Artillery units during the First World War. Of great interest, the R.G.A. were stationed in South Africa in and around 1896 and it is more than likely that this carbine was there!! A fascinating and well traveled little carbine and a great piece of history. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
