Product Information

This is a rare Dutch M1895 cavalry carbine of which very few were ever made. Dated 1918 and manufactured by Hembrug. The design is very similar to the French Berthier. The Dutch produced four models of this carbine, Military Police, Engineers, Cavalry and Bicycle mounted troops. Having a very small armed force only require very few numbers of rifles, with only 18,000 cavalry carbine being made. WWII saw the Netherlands invaded by Nazi German, the Dutch forces using weapons from the first World War were soon overwhelmed by the advancing German forces. Dutch resistance forces also armed themselves with these carbines. Interesting this one was brought into the UK and rechambered in British .303. Most likely a WWII bring back. The marking on the receiver ring "303 Brit' being a very old proof mark. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
