Product Information

This, 1918 dated Enfield SMLE is marked with the initials "N G" 20359 - National Guard with weapon number below. They consisted of men considered too old for active service and were trained to assist in the event of an invasion of Britain during the Great War, and are the original British ‘Home Guard’ or "Dads army". Their roll during the war is often overlooked but many went on to join the regular forces in France as the war progressed. In 1927 this SMLE was returned to the Enfield factory as part of the continued improvement programme of upgrades and has the inspectors and year stamp 1927 by the bolt safety. During the Second World War it was used again, this time by the Aussies and bears the Lithgow name and date stamp of 1943 on the stock. It is quite apparent from its overall condition that this SMLE has seen some considerable service during its 98 years. A rare and collectable SMLE with a history all of its own and was used in the defense of Great Britain during both world wars. You are unlikely to find another!

It still has its original barrel. The bolt is of WWII vintage and would have been matched to the gun by the Australian armorer.

Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
