Product Information

This is a rare WWII production Colt Commando .38 revolver. The serial number 9737 dates to 1942 production and is one of approximately 48,611 Commando revolvers that were purchased by the US government during the war. 1942 was the first years production and this revolver is from one of the first batches procured from Colt. The majority were bought for or by the Defense Supplies Corporation (DSC). The DSC had the role of providing arms for defense plant guards, police departments and security personnel of various government organizations. However, many more Commandos were used by the military than is commonly known. Records and pictures taken in the war show US airman, navy personnel and special forces units armed with Commando revolvers, with small quantities issued to the British under the lend lease agreement. General Eisenhower is reported to have had one to. This example has its original war finish and grips and is marked with US military ordnance "flaming grenade". A rarely seen US revolver and a very collectable Colt. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
