Product Information

An early production and superb condition SMLE MKIII .303 rifle. Manufactured by Enfield in 1912. From 1907 to 1912 RSAF Enfield only manufactured 100,000 MKIIIs. That's less than 17,000 a year! This lovely example is still fitted with its magazine cut off plate and early bolt assembly, and both front and rear volley and peep hole sights. Incredible after 104 years it still has many original matching parts including the wood work that bear many markings including "DP" & "EY". The initials "DP" meaning drill purpose. EY indicates emergency use only. The two crows feet facing each other stands for "sold out of service". From these various stamps and markings its mostly likely that this rifle saw active service during the First World War and then was later retired from service and used as a training aid. A very interesting rifle with lots of history and one of the most iconic British service rifles of all time. Deactivated in 1991 to old specifications with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
