Product Information

A beautiful condition, genuine WWII Remington made US military Springfield M1903A4 Sniper Rifle fitted with an original and correct WWII M73B1 scope and mounts. In January 1943 Remington were directed to divert 20,000 M1903 rifles for conversion to the M1903A4 sniper rifle configuration. The first block of serial numbers ran from 3407088 to 3427087. This rifle is number 3423811 from that batch. The barrel is correctly marked and dated August 1943 (8'43) and has the US ordnance "P" proof stamp and flaming grenade. The stock bears the US inspectors proof initials, "FJA" -  Frank J Atwood. The foresight blade was removed as it interfered with scopes sight. The M73B1 scope has excellent clear optics and is in full working order. Very few 1903A4's were produced during WWII, just 26,653 in total. Making these complete surviving examples very sought after. They were issued to American marksman/sharp shooters in various US regiments and companies and proved to be superb sniper rifles.

This model came to great notoriety when seen in hands of Private Daniel Jackson in the WWII epic "Saving Private Ryan". The 1903A4 snipers are seldom seen in the UK, live or deactivated, as the vast majority returned home with the US after the war ended.

It comes fitted with a high quality reproduction leather sling and lens cover. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.

A museum worthy example!
