Product Information

This is a rare WWI era Webley MKII .455 Revolver that is marked "N.P 382" = Natal Police, weapon number 382. During 1911 it was decided to reorganize the police forces of the newly formed Union of South Africa on the lines of that used in the former Cape Colony. With effect from 1 April 1913 two police forces were formed within the Union of South Africa. The SA Mounted Rifles was formed by the amalgamation of the Cape Mounted Police (CMP), Cape Mounted Rifles (CMR), Natal Police (NP), Orange Free State and Transvaal Police (TP). The 2nd and 3rd Regiments (NP) were at Pietermaritzburg and Dundee respectively. In the 40 years of its existence, the Natal Police and its mounted division the NMP fought in two wars and three rebellions and countless other minor skirmishes, a record that is probably not equaled by any other police force in late Victorian and Edwardian times. A rare revolver and survivor from a very turbulent period in history. The condition of this historic revolver is still extremely good with its original finish and grips. All parts are broad arrow marked. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked and dry fired.
