Product Information

This is a First World War dated Enfield made Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifle. Dated 1916, it was originally made with a magazine cut off plate. Note the star* after the MKIII designation has been struck out. The magazine cut off was omitted from the SMLE design in 1915 but because Enfield already had completed receivers with the provision the star * designation was simply struck out. The slot for the cut off plate is still visible. Other interesting feature are the barrel date and various numbers on the rifle. In 1919 the barrel and rear sight were both replaced, a very good indication that this rifle saw action. The armorer has renumbered the replacement rear sight to match the rifles serial number and struck though the old numbers. Also, beside the bolt safety bracket is the date stamp 1920 "20", this indicates that this rifle saw further upgrade(s) that year. The rifles bolt assembly is the correct WW1 type with round cocking piece. It has matching numbers to receiver, barrel, rear sight and nose cap.

Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
