Deactivated WWI SMLE No1 MKIII* Rifle

This is a Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield manufactured Short Magazine Lee Enfield - SMLE No1 MKIII* rifle dated 1916. That year saw Enfield produced 418,283 SMLE rifles of which the vast majority would have been issued and taken to war. The attrition rate of both men and weapons during this period was horrendous. The SMLE rifle is instantly recognisable and synonymous with the WWI British soldier as they went over the top with bayonets attached!  Many SMLE's went on to see service during WWII. This great looking rifle comes fitted with a canvas sling and inert .303 rounds in the magazine.
