Product Information

This is a WWI Eddystone manufactured US military issued P17 (M1917) Rifle chambered in 3006. It is dated in May 1918 (5'18) and has the correct US military flaming grenade ordnance stamps. When the US entered the war in 1917 they soon realised that they had a shortage of rifles. Winchester and Remington were already producing the Enfield P14 in .303 for the British. Utilising the same rifle Eddystone was set up by the US military to make the M1917 rifle but chambered in .3006 for issue to US soldiers. By the end of WWI M1917 was the most common rifle in service with US soldiers and proved to be a very reliable and accurate weapon. The design is based heavily on the Mauser Gew98 action that was being used by the Germans. In an ironic twist US companies were paying Mauser for the rights to use the design patent to make rifles that were then being used against German forces.
