Product Information

This SMLE was originally manufactured by Enfield in 1915 as a MKIII. Enfield only made around 271,800 that year with the entire years production being the MKIII. The MKIII* being first introduced in 1916. For some reason this one didn't have the magazine cut-off slot machined. A possible reason maybe to help speed up output numbers as rifles were urgently required. It was however used by the Australian's during WWII and may well have then been upgraded to a MKIII* under there ownership. Batches of SMLEs were supplied to Common Wealth forces by Britain during both world wars. Certainly a well traveled rifle with lots of history and with many matched parts and correct early bolt. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
