WWI & WWII era Schermuly Flare/Line Thrower Pistol. The Schermuly was a highly successful pistol being used for the throwing lines from shore to ship, or ship to ship. The Schermuly system saved countless lives at sea. They were also used for firing flares and issued during both world wars. The Royal Navy used various types throughout WWII. This example and early and rarer type with flat based pistol grip. The vast majority used the same design as the Webley & Scott with curve or rounded base grip. It also has an unusual nose cap that flares out and has holes in it. The condition is very good with matching numbers. The frame and barrel are brass with the correct British proof stamps. The grips are original Walnut. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
