Product Information

This is a WWI Eddystone manufactured US military issued M1917 or Enfield Pattern (P17) Rifle chambered in 3006 with matching bolt. It is dated in July 1918 (7'18) and has the correct US military flaming grenade ordnance stamps. When the US entered the war in 1917 they soon realised that they had a shortage of rifles. Winchester, Remington & Eddystone were already producing the Enfield P14 in .303 for the British and a quick and effective solution was to started making the M1917 rifle re-chambered in .3006 for issue to US soldiers. By the end of WWI M1917 was the most common rifle in service with US soldiers and proved to be a very reliable and accurate weapon. The design is based heavily on the Mauser Gew98 action that was being used by the Germans. In an ironic twist US arms companies were paying Mauser for the rights to use the design patent to make rifles that were then being used against German forces!!

Often overlooked, in the autumn of 1940 British Home Guard started to be armed with US made WWI P17 rifles chambered .3006 and by May 1941 P14's chambered in British 303 were being withdrawn from the Home Guard and reissued to regular Army units.

This exmple comes with the correct WWI US made bayonet, 5 inert 3006 rounds on a clip and a canvas sling. Deactivated with a working action.
