Product Information

Early Second World War "Dunkirk Era" SMLE No1 MKIII, not a MKIII*. It is quite plausible that this rifle was taken to France by the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and ended up on the beaches of Dunkirk, failing to return home. Generally all rifles that returned from France after the Dunkirk evacuation were eventually upgraded to a * as part of the ongoing upgrade and modifications. Once rifles had had the necessary work carried out the star symbol was added to show this. This is further supported by the German (Erma) proof marks and "Brit 303" on the receiver plus the unusual canvas sling. These unmodified rifle are now very scarce, with magazine cut-off plate in tact. Dated 1939 and manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA.Co). Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
