Deactivated WWII BSA SMLE

This is a WWII dated SMLE No1 MKIII* rifle. The date stamp looks to be either 1943 or 45. The same date stamp is also found on the barrel which is matched to the rifle. Although not clearly maker marked the letter B below the GR and Royal Cypher is that of BSA - Brmingham Small Arms. During this period of WWII BSA were using old stocks of serviceable actions to fulfill Governmant contracts. These rifles were often assembled quickly with little or no emphasis given to the clarity of markings. This example has clearly seen active service, possible overseas. The blued finish on the metal parts has mostly worn off and woodwork has serveral armoures repairs.
