Deactivated WWII Colt made M1911A1. With the correct carcouches and inspection stamps. The serial number dates to 1944 production. Marked with the initials G.H.D. (Guy.H.Drewry). This is the ordnance acceptance markings used by the US army when ordering. Just below the serial number are the initials RIA (Rock Island Arsenal) who were contracted by the US Government to rework weapons that returned from WWII. A very good indication that this pistol saw action during the Second World War. These pistols seeing action again during the Vietnam or Korean Wars. The 1911 is one of the classic US sidearms and had a fearsome reputation being chambered in the mighty .45 calibre (the same round as the Thompson Submachine gun). Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
