Product Information

This is a WWII Lee Enfield L59A1 Training Rifle. These rifles were converted from WWII No4 rifles specifically for cadet training. They were issued to British army, navy and RAF cadets and were used for various training and drill exercises. Often painted with white bands to identify it as a none firing weapons, and with the initials DP meaning drill purpose. The REME armourers deliberatley machined / cut away section of the action and barrel to weaken the rifle, thus rendering it in capable of firing. The magazine has been modified to prevent .303 ammunition being loaded. The vast majority were assigned to the scrap bin with the introduction of the SA80, it being considered an obsolete military rifle. This particular No4 was originally part of the WWII Lead Lease programme and was made by US firm Savage and is correctly marked "US Property".
