In 1941, due to German threat, some of the equipment was relocated to Central Asia to the large Chelyabinsk Kirov Plant No. 100 complex. The remaining equipment stayed operational during the long and harsh siege of Leningrad and continued to produce weapons and Tanks. First produced in 1943, the PPS43 was used extensively by the Red Army during WWII.  During the fierce fighting in Russia, German troops often favoured Russian machine guns due to their reliability and ability to worked in all weather conditions.

Deactivated with a moving cocking handle and bolt selection that can be pulled back and when released will return under spring tension. The bolt safety can also be engaged.
