Product Information

This is a rare First World War issued Smith & Wesson M1917 Revolver with short barrel. During WWI the British army had huge shortages of handguns. In an attempt to alleviate this problem The British Government contracted Smith & Wesson to supply them with M1917 & New Service revolvers. The serial number range was from 5001- 74755. The serial number of this revolver is 24942 and dates to 1918 as the year of manufacture. This particular example is broad arrow stamped and has also been  modified. The lanyard hoop has been removed and the serial serial then reapplied. This may have been done at the request of the owner. During WW1 this type of revolver was only available to British & Common Wealth officers, it was also mandatory for an officer to purchase his sidearm. The factory fitted short barrel is also far less common, measuring just 3 and 3/4 inches. The two crows feet facing each over denote that it was "sold out of service".

Of considerable interest this model of revolver was used by Harrison Ford in the Indiana Jones movie "The Raiders of the Lost Ark".

Deactivated to current specifications with clear chambers.

This item is available for purchase and is currently at the proof house being certificated.
