Product Information

A 1918 dated British officers Webley Mk6 .455 Revolver . At the top on the rear of the pistol grip are the markings 2.G.G. 33. (2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards weapon number 33). The revolver is profusely broad arrow marked with matching numbers to frame, cylinders and barrel, and is fitted the it's original WW1 grips that have turned a lovely chocolate colour with time. We also believe that this Webley was reissued again, possibly remaining with its owner during WW2 as it bears Enfield inspection stamps dating to 1928 and 1932. This is further supported by the fact that the weapon numbers only are struck through which strongly suggests it remained with in the G.G. Unit markings were normally deleted or struck through when weapons were reissued elsewhere. It is very unusual to find these markings on a Mk6. This revolver has just been discovered whilst clearing a relatives house. The G.G. are amongst the most famous and well known British regiments and in 1918 fought on The Somme, during the Battles of the Hindenburg Line, The pursuit to the Selle, The Battle of the Selle and The Battle of the Sambre. At the Armistice they were near Maubeuge and were then ordered to the Rhine, crossing the German frontier on the 11th of December. Battalions began to return to England on the 20th of February 1919 and had all returned home by the 29th of April 1919. They were also heavily involved in many major battles and engagements during WW2 including operation Market Garden. A rare and historic Webley. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
