This is a rare Smith & Wesson .44 Russian Model 3 Revolver with blued finish, wooden grips and lanyard hoop. The serial number and markings on the base of the pistol grip, s/n 44920, 1874 in a box and letter 'P' inspectors proof stamp, are only found to a very small batch of around 4500 revolvers that were assigned to special contracts, circa 1874 - 1875. The serial number falls within the known range and would mean that it is one of the first from this very small batch. Another distinctive feature is the large knurled takedown screw and S&W address stamps on the barrel rib. A very desirable and collectable revolver. Deactivated with clear chambers.
