Product Information

This is a very rare WWI & WWII Colt M1911 manufactured by Remington UMC. Remington Union Metallic Cartridge Company, of Bridgeport Connecticut were contracted by the US Government to produce this model during WWI, but only manufactured 21,676 M1911's before the war ended and its contract was cancelled. These pistols bear a unique Ordnance Department acceptance initial “E.E.C.” and an eagle head. “E.E.C.” is the acceptance mark used by Edmund E. Chapman Major, Army Inspector of Ordnance, whom Inspected 1911s at Remington U.M.C. in 1918. Unlike Colt made 1911s the US property wording is on the left side of the frame. Serial numbers ran from 1 to 21,676, this one is number 5962 and dates to early 1918. During WWII this pistol had the slide changed for a WWII Remington example. During WWII all available 1911s were reworked and put into service. A rare and interesting US military pistol. Deactivated in 1993 to old specifications it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
