This is a Second World War SMLE that was factory repaired in 1962. The barrel markings and date stamp are from 1942 when this rifle was originally made. It would have seen action in the Middle East , South East Asia and Africa campaigns. In 1962 it was "FR" - Factory Repaired" at the Royal Factory Ishapore where any damaged parts would have been replaced or repaired. Note the re-numbered rear sight. The armorer has struck out the old numbers and re-numbered it to the rifle. Still in great condition it comes fitted with an original canvas sling.
