Product Information

This is an extremely rare First World War Imperial German Army contract Mauser "Red 9" pistol with its original matched shoulder stock. During the Great War DWM were unable to produce enough PO8 Lugers for the German army. To supplement this shortage Mauser were contracted to produce the C96 in 9mm, the same calibre as the Luger. However, the C96 was being made in 7.63mm so to make it easily identifiably to the user the grips had a large number 9 carved in them. The Red 9 contract began in 1916. 150,000 were ordered but by the time the war ended in 1918, Mauser had only made around 137,000. The contract was then cancelled. This example is from the first year of manufacture. It is pistol number 16,728. Incredible it still retains its original factory finish and grips, but even more unusual is the shoulder stock which is also original and numbered to the pistol. This is an extremely rare find! On the rear of the frame just below the serial number is the German military acceptance stamp. Another very rare mark is found on the under side of the barrel. The letter M is believed to that of the German Navy or Marine. Very few are known to have been issued to the German Navy, even fewer are known to exist today!

A museum worthy example.

Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked and dry fired. The magazine assembly is integral and is complete and untouched.
