First World War German Gewehr 98 rifle, chambered in 7.92mm. Dated 1918 Manufactured by Mauser. This one still has the original issued cleaning rod.  The Gew 98 (as most often referred to) was the standard infantry rifle of the German army throughout WWI, seeing action on all fronts. A very reliable and strong action meant it worked well during the tough and testing conditions in the trenches, they also made excellent sniper rifles. Many saw active service during the Second World War with some being issued to Schutztaffel (SS) and other elite units. It was often a treasured war trophy by allied troops when captured. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
