A first year of production, Second World War, German MP40 submachine gun. The secret makers code "660" was only used on early Steyr Daimler-Puch produced MP40s before being changed to "BNZ". The date code "40" refers to 1940 as the year of manufacture, the first year the MP40 was issued to German forces. 1940 only saw 95,100 MP38s & MP40s manufactured by all makers. This example is all Steyr parts that carry Waffenamt code WaA623. It has the early slotted magazine port and rare aluminum painted grips.

The MP 40 was an innovative design in both terms of manufacture and as a weapon of war. It was made using stamped steel and Bakelite parts and had a very clever folding stock arrangement making it an ideal compact weapon for the German Fallshrimjager (paratroops). The MP40 was issued widely throughout the German army with infantry divisions and SS units receiving them first in 1940, and was only in production from 1940 to 1945. It was also a favourite with Allied troops and was a prized trophy, often it would be used in preference to other available weapons if captured. Deactivated to post 1995 specifications it is partially strippable. A fantastic example of the iconic WWII SMG.
