This is a scarce Mauser's Vest Pocket Pistol, model WTP I. It was patented 1918 and first introduced for sale in 1921 with production ending in 1940. The initials WTP mean "Westen Taschen Pistole". Very few were made, about 50,000 of this model. This example dates to the mid to late 1930s. The serial number 46863 means its from 3,500- 4,000 made. The Nazis had strict laws on guns and their ownership with only military and licensed non-military personnel allowed to own firearms. This pistol may have been a private military purchase. It bears the correct pre 1940 proof stamps. .
