This is a very early production Mauser C96 "Bolo" pistol. The low three digit serial would suggest that this pistol was from either the first or second year of production (1921-22) this being pistol number 695th. The “Bolo” Mauser is the short barreled version of the original C96 and were originally produced for the new Bolshevik government of Soviet Russia. The name “Bolo” came from the word Bolshevik. They were also exported and used during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and saw active service during WWII with partisan groups and military units from both Allies and Axis forces.
