Rare Mauser C96 Flatside, Large Ring Hammer  Semi-Automatic Pistol. Very low serial number 1983. This model was first produced around 1899 with only early production pistols having the unmilled areas on the sides, hence the name "flatsided" or "slabsided". And only being made this way for just a few years before reverting back to milling the sides.  Although the number on the barrel by the Mauser stampings has been change the original serial number of 1983 appears on all other parts, and most remarkably on both grips. From the serial number (1983) we believe that it maybe from a batch of only 5000 shipped to the Italian Navy in 1899. Serial range was from 1-5000. The C96 saw action in both world wars and was a prized war trophy my Allied troops. Deactivated sympathetically to old specifications in 1991 with a clear barrel it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. Although not all that clear in the pictures the overall finish has a lovely deep blued patina.
