Product Information

This is a very rare and interesting WWI Luger, for a number of reasons. Firstly, when originally manufactured in 1916 by DWM (Deutsches Waffen Und Munitionsfabriken) it was an Artillery Luger. We know this as it has the notch just in front of the 1920 date stamp on the receiver. This is where the front sight that was fitted to the barrel sat. Secondly, it is only number 282nd off the production line of 1916. The serial number does not have a letter suffix. As with most German weapons numbering systems they started at 1 and ran to 9999, then 1a to 9999a and so on. On the right hand side of the frame are the three Crown over script proof marks next to the single Imperial eagle firing proof. Post WWI in 1920 under the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was banned from having pistols that were longer than 100cm. This meant that artillery Lugers were reworked and had shorter standard barrels fitted. Using these reworked Lugers, and under Allied supervision, Germany was permitted to self govern. This pistol was marked and issued to the Sächsiche Landessicherheits-Polizei (State Security Police of Saxony - S.L. Pol ) weapon number 3804. It was then transferred to the Seachsische Polizie Leipzig and marked S.P.L.. The pistol also has the correct sear safety added by Nazi Police, on top of the side plate. This Luger would have also been used during the Second World War. Incredibly, 99 years after it left the DWM factory and after surviving two world wars it's still matching numbers accept for the magazine which is an original WWI wooden based example. A rare pistol with lots history, it is brand new to the collectors market. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
