Product Information

A one of a kind First World War Gew98 "carbine". Manufactured in 1916 by Amberg for the Imperial German army war effort. It is correctly marked with the Imperial German army acceptance stamps and is a very early 1916 production Gewehr. The serial number has no letter suffix, which indicates that this is around number 2932rd of that years production (first batch of 1916). In 1916 due to huge loses of men and equipment all available weapons were sent to war. During its service life the barrel and wood work have been shortened, presumably the rifles front end was badly damage and this modification made use of an otherwise unserviceable rifle. It would have made it ideally suited for use in trench raiding parties. The wood work shows clear signs of battle damage and repairs. The sling is canvas with the correct German swivel attachment that is  fastened with a British boot lace cord. This again points to a battlefield conversion. Incredibly the gun has remained complete with matching numbers to all parts, including the floor plate screws and wood work. The bolt isn't matched to the gun but is a WWI example. The gun bears no other ownership or property stamps, just the original Imperial German ones. A very unusual and rare find! Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
