Product Information

This is an extremely rare Second World War Japanese Imperial Navy, Type 97 flare pistol and holster. Manufactured by Kawaguchiya Firearms Company (KFC), the type 97 was first adopted by the Japanese Imperial Navy in 1937 and was in service until 1945. It is the only single barrel flare pistol adopted by them. Very few were made, with only an estimated total production of 3,250. From this total there are five known variants. This example is the third variant of which only 500 were ever made . The serial number (2111) dates to around 1941. Very few now exist with most being lost at sea during World War Two hostilities. Those that survived were often a favourite war trophy for US soldiers and Marines. Incredibly this one has its even rarer original leather holster of which even fewer exist. Both pistol and holster were brought back by a British soldier after the war. A rare find indeed! It is quite possible this maybe the only one of its type in the UK!!! Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
