Product Information

A superb condition Steyr Pieper model 1908 pistol, chambered in 7.65mm. Production started in 1909 until 1911, then resumed after the Great War in 1919 finishing in 1929. It is estimated that 60,000 were manufactured by OEWG Steyr over these two production periods. The 1908 is an unusual blow back pistol with a tip-up barrel. The barrel is retained with a pivoting bolt and is held by a thumb-latch barrel-locking mechanism. Originally it was intended for commercial sales but became a favourite private purchase pistol by Austro-Hungarian Military officers and Police departments. During WWII a handful were issued to Nazi personnel.

This example is dated 1919, however the serial number 36748 is the earliest recorded from that year's production of which an estimated 12,000 pistols were made. Interestingly, due to inconsistencies with overlapping serial numbers and manufacturing dates, the serial number on this pistol would indicate that the parts were manufactured pre-WWI but then assembled in 1919. The finish is still lovely and crisp and it has the correct early grips and magazine. The lanyard hoop would indicate it was for military or police use.

Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked and dry fired.
