Product Information

This is a very rare Second World War Mauser Banner K98. During WWII German manufactures continued to produce weapons for commercial sales. Although most output was for the Nazi war effort, like any business they still required to make money and supplying foreign Governments and powers was often very lucrative. Commercial weapons would usually bear the makers banner or mark and in Mauser's case their K98s had the Mauser banner adorning the receiver. As the war deepened more weapons were required and to help supplement this shortfall, small batches of commercial weaponry was instead diverted to military channels. Once accepted into military ownership these weapons were Waffen coded and then issued. This K98 is one of those guns. It bears the commercial Mauser banner and Nazi military Waffen code WaA655. This K98 is part of a very small batch diverted between 1939-40. This is the first of its type we have seen, and due to its rarity will probably be the last. An extremely rare K98 and a real collectors piece. Of interest the serial number is only number 91.

Norway was invaded by Germany in 1940 and was under occupation until May 1945. Germany garrisoned around 300,000 troops in Norway to protect its supply of iron ore from Sweden, and it was also a key strategic base for its navy and airforce.  After the war this carbine was used by the Norwegian army and marked with there army markings (HÆR = Army Land Forces). Incredible after all its been through this K98 is virtually still all matched parts including wood work and some screws.

It is worth noting that after the war Norway had large stocks of captured and surrendered German K98s numbering in the region of around 150,000. But as time has past and with the introduction of more sophisticated and modern weapons these carbines have become obsolete and no longer required. As part of its non proliferation agreement, Norway was duty bound to destroy most of these carbines, which they duly did! Now very few remain and those that do, have to be legally kept in Norway as part of this treaty. Thankfully this one and a small handful we have available were spared!
