This is a WWI Austrian Steyr Cavalry Carbine straight pull bolt action. Marked on the receiver with Austro-Hungarian Army stamps and date stamp. Just visible are the 1918 proof marks over stamped the letter "S" on the receiver ring. In 1930 most M95 rifles were converted to the more powerful 8x56R M30 ammunition and marked with the letter "S". During WWII, Italians and other German “allies” such as Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania used M95 carbine throughout the war, while others saw widespread use with the various partisan armies in the Balkans and Greece.
