Product Information

This is a First World War German Imperial Army Gewehr 98 rifle that was manufactured by Mauser and is date 1918. The Gew98 was the German armies standard frontline infantry rifle that was used on all fronts during the Great War. It was a very accurate and reliable rifle, many saw service again in WWII with Nazi forces. The wood work has the initials HWN scribed into it, most likely those of the owner. It is worth noting that by 1917 there was a surplus of Gew 98 rifles within the German armies depots and stores. As a consequence every manufacturer dramatically reduced Gewehr98 production, and a few dropped Gewehr98 production altogether and were redirected to make other types of weaponry during late 1917 and early 1918. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
