This is an early production pre WWII German K98 by J P Sauer und Sohn Gewehrfabrik, makers code S/147, dated 1936. JP Sauer & Mauser were the very first two companies to start manufacturing the K98 in 1934.  This is a very interesting rifle, originally issued for WWII duties it has a some stage been de Nazified. Many captured Nazi marked weapons were often treated in this way. It is not  Russian captured, there are no electro stenciled makings, most commonly associated with Russian captured weapons. Surprisingly it still has many matched parts and all in very good condition. The walnut woodwork is marked to the German Army with the letter H = Heer.
